HENNING VON BERGALPHA MALES Henning von Berg first made a name for himself with his photo shoot in Berlin’s Reichstag - in 1999 he photographed six naked men, later known as the “Reichstag Rascals," and created an international sensation, catapulting von Berg into the international limelight. He’s maintained his penchant for architectural backdrops and bizarre, erotic group scenes to this day, both things that make his images so distinctive. He prefers to work with natural lighting and in unusual settings. Full color and duotone. (pp 160), hard cover with dust jacket, 46,95 |
TOM BIANCHION THE COUCH On the Couch, Volume 1 landed like a bombshell and has remained on the bestseller lists of gay bookstores to this day. In 2004 Volume 2 followed and upped the ante for Bianchi’s works. Now countless fans of the American artist can enjoy his newest high-quality book that brings both volumes together. It’s an unbeatable proposition! A variety of men alone, in pairs or groups drop all their inhibitions and fully let themselves go in a play of unbridled lust and seething passion. Bianchi’s imagery is a unique balance of erotic content and artistic expression. The On the Couch project began as Tom Bianchi sought a way to explore male erotic photograhy beyond the chiché ridden images of mock angst and calendar romance. The series of erotic photo essays on his website has resulted in two books and a GVAN "best picture" winning film and DVD series. In this compilation of volumes 1 and 2, Tom Bianchi added two exclusive photo essays shot for the film. Full color. (pp 240), paper, 32,95 |

Mantle, Christopher Cushman, James Passy, Kenn Duncan and Leonard Zett. Also included is a selection of paintings and drawings by Peter Flinsch showing African men. (pp 80), paper, 27,95 |
PIERRE BORHANMAN TO MAN. A HISTORY OF GAY PHOTOGRAPHY From the first announcement of Daguerre's method of capturing images in 1839, photography has been employed by gay men to express themselves, their desires and affections. This volume is the first comprehensive study of homoeroticism and male homosexuality in the history of photography. Inseparable from religious, political, scientific, and social transformations, from the progressive liberation of morals and the need of photographers to express themselves freely, the history of homoerotic photography and gay representation is as filled with different documentary approaches as it is with the most provocative, suggestive, and artistic expression.
This photographic orientation took advantage of various social currents,
notably the invention of sexology, the resurgence of exercise and sport,
literary and modern cinematic innovations, as well as the history of art
which often served as a departure point. At first scandalous and shameful
- indeed at times secretive and closeted - homoerotic photography became defiant
and rebellious before becoming permissible, accepted, and even respected.
It accompanied gay liberation and the elevation of gay people to an individual
and collective identity - sexually, emotionally and culturally.
Man to Man puts photographs made by, for, and of homosexuals into
historical perspective. Nearly 350 works, both well-known and unpublished,
permit us to follow the thematic and aesthetic developments of amateur
as well as professional photographers who preceded or reflected the transformation
of norms. From Wilhelm von Gloeden and Fred Holland Day to George PLatt
Lynes, from Raymond Voinquel and Herbert List to Robert Mapplethorpe, Arthur
Tress, Duane Michals, Toni Catany, and Pierre & Gilles. An important
contribution to gay history and the history of photography, it is a history
punctuated by taboos and transgressions, connivance, delectation, and jubilation.
Lavishly illustrated in both black & white and full color. (pp 288), hard
cover with dust jacket, 78,95 |
JAY DIERSA NIGHT AT THE MOTEL Jay Diers is at it again! The young photographer from Iowa took a chance by looking into American motel rooms and surprises us anew with unusually intimate, warm-hearted and yet in-your-face portraits. The bored farm boys of the American Midwest seem as if they've just been waiting for their chance to finally show themselves to the world! And so they pose, beguile us with their young bodies and seem to be saying just one thing - "Take me!" But the photos never seem blatant or exploitative thanks to Diers' respectful and dignified handling of his models. This is a magnificent portrait of American youth! Full color and duotone. (pp 120), hard cover, 29,95 |
GIOVANNIUN*/CUT Giovanni opens another chapter of desire for male meat! The male sexual organ has never been more directly or excitingly shown as in this fascinating declaration of love. While it may seem like a pure meat market on the surface, the artist’s greatest concern is the individual beauty of man’s best friend, which has earned it this honorific place in the sun. Giovanni never cheapens his art, lowering it to a sort of “dick pic" level - he shows himself a master of light and shadow, of form and composition. Full color and duotone. (pp 112) hard cover, 27,95 |
FRED GOUDONSUNDAY MORNING The book for the weekend! With French flair and a sure sense of composition style, photographer Fred Goudon gives us a look into the beds of strangers. The artist wraps his stubbly, muscled men in soft colours and gentle contrasts. His portraits are less sexual than highly erotic. The soft lighting creates fascinating physical landscapes in the sheets - atmospheric photographs by one of the greatest contemporary French photographers that will make you melt! Full color and duotone. (pp 144), hard cover with dust jacket, 43,95 |
HOT HOUSETRUNKS It was probably a good thing that the men in the mail-order catalogues weren’t completely naked as we furiously paged through them, leaving the rest to our young overactive imaginations. And clearly the men in this Hot House book have a lot more to offer than those boring catalogue underwear models. As we’ve come to expect these hot hunks are both fresh and delicious - and the men of Hot House once again prove that they are among the biggest and best in the gay porn business. Colourful backdrops, worked-out male bodies in exciting solo portraits - and these are some of the most delicious (bathing suit) fillings the world has ever seen! A dream! Full color. (pp 96), hard cover, 29,95 |
JIM JAGERMR. LONG. THE MODELS OF THIRD WORLD STUDIO, CHICAGO 1976-1981 The founder of Third World Studio, Jim L. Jager, was born in 1933 in Chicago. In the fifties, when he was in his early twenties, his job sent him on a two-year assignment to Mexico, where he started photographing black men. Back in Chigaco he moved to the south side, a neighborhood which was said to be the best integrated in the city, and it was here that he recruited most of his models. He became known in the community and his models recommended him to their friends and several posed for him. He sometimes traveled solely to take photographs. Jim Jager's relationship to his models can be seen in these images. Their poses, and even more their faces are those of amateurs, natural, just like guys one can meet at the corner drug store. In 1976 Jager founded Third World Studio. In comparison with some other photographers of black men, his approach was characterized as hard core. He started to publish magazines and he continued to produce a constant stream of these until his death, such as Black Sugar, Black Roots, Black Fever and Black Thunder. In contrast to the artistic pictures in the Black series from the same publisher, the photos in Mr. Long were intended to arouse, and so most of them consist of full frontal nudes of horse-hung black men. Black & white and full color. (pp 112), paper, 37,50 |

LINDSAY LOZONALL MY BOYS Lindsay Lozon is a very special artist. He reduces his settings to the bare necessities, ceding the scene to his young models. The results are refreshing, humorous and surprisingly multifaceted photographs. Lozon isn't impressed by star allure - he is there for his models and not the other way round. Lozon's young men are consistently slim, smooth and athletic - but each of them has his own special character. All my Boys goes much further than mere pin-up photography! For the first time the photographer also presents portraits in color - delicious! (pp 120), hard cover with dust jacket, 32,95 |

DUANE MICHALSTHE ADVENTURES OF CONSTANTINE CAVAFY Duane Michals returns to the poetry of twentieth-century Greek poet Constantine Cavafy for inspiration for his most recent work. Michals' images loosely illustrate Cavafy's poetry, while investigating themes of lost time, love discovered and remembered, and the sublime realm of the surreal. “Please meet me in the circle of this conceit. These little fables of my imaginary theatrics repeat the mantras of Cavafy's desires and regrets: so old today, now gone away.” - Duane Michals. (pp 112), hard cover, 59,95 |
BOB MIZERATHLETIC MODEL GUILD [AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHY OF THE MALE NUDE 1940-1970, VOL. VII] The year 2005 marked the 60th anniversary of the founding of Athletic Model Guild, the oldest continuously operating photographic studio of the male physique in the world. For decades photographer Bob Mizer worked with both bodybuilders and ordinary guys off the street, giving them a chance to be somebody and to have a little fame in his Physique Pictorial magazine. In exchange for small responsibilities like cleaning the pool, sweeping the yards, performing handyman services, or other menial tasks, Bob sometimes allowed the guys to hang out or even live in the AMG compound. This book is only a tantalizing introduction to Bob Mizer's work. Some of these images were chosen and approved by Bob himself just before he passed away in 1992, but his death prevented publication at that time. After nearly fourteen years it was time to complete this project, marking an important milestone in the resurrection of his legendary studio. (pp 112), paper, 34,95 |
JEFF PALMERTOUCH This work is “touching" in the true meaning of the word - Jeff Palmer’s artistic male photography presents American dreamboats in sensual and intimate togetherness. Muscle-bound men in highly emotional scenes are masterfully enveloped in light and shade. They open up to the camera’s lens with both self-assurance and abandon. Palmer’s newest works took quite some time to complete and you can see it in the results. Those looking for a snapshot aesthetic may be disappointed. But those who appreciate meticulously composed photographs of male nudes are sure to be delighted. (pp 120), hard cover, 32,95 |
OHM PHANPHIROIJNIGHTHAWKS His first book Rough Stuff (2004) earned Ohm Phanphiroj international acclaim. The mixture of voyeurism, provocation and sensual intimacy between him and his models had a huge and lasting impact on gay photographic identity. His follow-up work, Rare Views (2006) took a similar approach and was even more successful. With Nighthawks Phanphiroj presents himself anew as a sensitive and impartial artist, a portraitist of young self-discovery in a world moving at a tearing pace. Sexually charged scenes are interspersed with melancholy moments. Nothing is hidden here, which is exactly what the photographer’s fans love - the captivating honesty of his images. (pp 96), hard cover, 27,95 |
PIERRE & GILLESDOUBLE JE Pierre et Gilles create dreamy portraits that transport their subjects – as well as the viewers – into an alternate world where camp, pop, burlesque, religion, and eroticism mingle in perfect harmony. Creating the sets themselves, and with Pierre as photographer and Gilles as painter/elaborator, they create one-of-a-kind artworks of an unmistakably original style. A host of stars has passed before their lens, such as Iggy Pop, Madonna, Marc Almond, Nina Hagen, Catherine Deneuve, Laetitia Casta, Marilyn Manson and Mireille Mathieu, though many of their portraits also feature unknowns. Marking the 30th anniversary of their collaboration, the Jeu de Paume in Paris hosted a retrospective of their work from June to September 2007. Much more than just an exhibition catalog, this book brings together all of the 130 works included in the show as well as an additional 170 pieces focusing on the past ten years. Also included is a tribute text by the artist Jeff Koons. What better way to (re)discover the work of Pierre et Gilles? (pp 460), hard cover, 39,95 |

JAMES SPADA (Ed.)THE ROMANTIC MALE NUDE What makes a male nude romantic, as opposed to merely erotic? The more obvious attributes might be soft focus, soft lighting, silk bedding, sylvan settings, roses, lace curtains, moonlight. Perhaps it is the look of a model, or the expression on his face; maybe it is the warmth of the embrace between two lovers, or the longing in a young man’s eyes. Each of the images in this book, the first anthology to bring together a group of celebrated photographers to thematically celebrate romance in the male nude, stirs the imagination to create a story around it – a story of youthful yearning or an idyllic day, a story about the blossoming love between two men, or even about the rapport between a photographer and his model. The photographers represented here – among them Reed Massengill, Kobi Israel, Tom Bianchi, Ed Freeman, David Vance, and Michael Childers – live and work in places as disparate as Israel, Guatemala, England, Cuba, Brazil, France, Hong Kong, Greece, Sweden, Germany, and the United States. Their diversity proves that romanticism flourishes everywhere in the world. (pp 160), hard cover, 39,95 |
